A strong organisational culture built through a bottom-up approach.

At Philea, we believe that everyone should have a voice and equal opportunities. Inclusion and diversity are not only foundational to our internal culture – they are also values we actively promote within the wider European philanthropy sector. These principles guide how we work, collaborate, and grow together. They are essential to our performance, impact, and the kind of community we strive to build.

Your Role as new Employee

As a new colleague, you play a vital role in upholding and advancing our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. You are encouraged to:

  • Foster belonging by creating an environment where diverse perspectives are welcomed and celebrated.
  • Ensure equity in access to opportunities, resources, and support.
  • Identify and address bias in decision-making, recruitment, performance reviews, and daily interactions.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to concerns related to discrimination, harassment, or exclusion.

Practical Actions You Can Take

To help embed DEI into everyday work, here are some actions you can take:

  • Use inclusive language in communication and documentation.
  • Encourage diverse voices in meetings and decision-making processes.
  • Support flexible working arrangements to accommodate different needs and lifestyles.
  • Provide fair and constructive feedback that supports growth and development.
  • Refer to HR when you need guidance on DEI-related issues or when concerns are raised.

Creating an Inclusive Team Culture

Building an inclusive team culture is a shared responsibility. You can contribute by:

  • Promote psychological safety by encouraging open dialogue and respectful disagreement.
  • Recognise and challenge microaggressions or exclusionary behaviour.
  • Celebrate cultural and identity-based events to foster awareness and appreciation.
  • Ensure accessibility in team activities, communications, and physical spaces.

Culture Manifesto

Philea’s Culture Manifesto serves as our internal “code of conduct” and outlines the values and behaviors expected of all team members and stakeholders. These principles – trust, collaboration, transparency, innovation, inclusion, and diversity – form the foundation of our organisational culture. The manifesto was collaboratively drafted by Philea staff back in 2022.

All employees are expected to act with respect, empathy, responsibility, and openness. Behaviours such as micromanagement, discrimination, disrespect, and conflicts of interest are not tolerated. Open communication, collegiality, and accountability are essential to maintaining Philea's integrity and collective impact.

All staff play a key role in modelling and reinforcing Philea’s values. Everyone is expected to lead by example, foster a respectful and inclusive environment, and ensure that their actions align with the principles outlined in the Culture Manifesto as our Code of Conduct. Team members should proactively address concerns or breaches, promote open dialogue, and support continuous learning and development.
